(quoted directly from Flying in the Comfort Zone) While surprising, most people with the fear of heights do not experience this as a factor in the fear of flying. Similarly, there are many individuals with a fear of heights who are not at all afraid to fly. I believe this is true because such individuals have an intuitive grasp of the role of the wing as a lifting platform and therefore do not feel that falling is an imminent or likely possibility. If you feel that your fear of heights is a factor in your fear of flying, try studying and reviewing lift until you know it perfectly. Combine this knowledge with muscle relaxation (and breathing control) and you are likely to experience relief.
