(quoted directly from Flying in the Comfort Zone) There is a very good chance that your claustrophobia will diminish with the practice of the fear control techniques outlined in this text. Self analysis is very valuable in making sense of the emotional origins of the phobia. Practice your muscle relaxation and breathing with the images in mind that trigger the claustrophobia. When you practice muscle relaxation with the image of the closing of the aircraft door in mind, try and notice if, in the back of your mind, you are thinking that you will have to wait until the door is opened before you will feel well. If that is the case, tell yourself, "I will feel better in this situation as it is, without an opened door". Face feeling trapped with your muscles completely relaxed and your breathing completely under control (remember the 20 minute rule). You will find that, with practice, you will no longer require an opened door and your anxiety will subside considerably.
